Receive Jesus!

So, you've heard the good news of Jesus and have to decided you would like to receive him as your Lord and savior but don't know how to do this. Well it's simply making that request in faith.

Romans 10:9-13
"if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

To receive Jesus - pray this. "Lord Jesus I believe you are the son of God and that you became a man and died for my sins and then rose from death. I ask you to forgive me now and be my Lord. Amen"

If you just prayed that prayer to Jesus you have been 'born again' received his forgiveness and he has become your Lord. He has also given you the gift of The Holy Spirit who will be with you forever.

Now what? Well you can expect the devil to try to steal the seed planted in your heart (he has already been trying to prevent you from receiving it!). How can you recognize his voice? Well he is a liar and sows doubt. For instance, one of the first things he may say is 'but you didn't feel anything when you asked Jesus to be your Lord and therefore Jesus didn't accept you'. This of course is a lie but how do you defeat this? By standing on the truth of God's word. Jesus did this exact same thing when he was in the wilderness being tempted by the devil for 40 days. There are many scriptures that will win this particular argument and one is Jesus said, 'he who comes to me I will in no case cast out'. You need to learn the word so you are equipped for battle and prepared for the work of God in your life.

Here are some steps you Must take as a new member of the body of Christ.

1) Be baptized. Baptism is not necessary for salvation since you received Jesus without it, but it is commanded by The Lord and is a public profession of your commitment to Jesus.

Acts 2:38
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

2) Read the word and obey it!

Matthew 4:4
Jesus said 'man shall not live on bread alone but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God'.

Luke 11:28
He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

3) Join a solid local fellowship of believers. I would recommend Calvary Chapel or Baptist. I would avoid any congregations who believe in the baptism of The Holy Spirit as 'evidenced' by speaking in tongues. You have received The Holy Spirit upon receiving Jesus and in most cases that is Not evidenced by tongues. It also another opportunity to the devil to cast doubt. I would also avoid 'oneness' pentecostal who have a perverted view of the trinity. Obviously avoid pseudo Christian cults such as Mormonism, Jehovah's witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists, and absolutely avoid Catholicism! You'll learn why in time.

Hebrews 10:24-25

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

4) Share Christ! You now possess the greatest treasure in all creation and the greatest gift you can give is to share it!
Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
